The millennial food trends for Nigerians have been scintillating and have set the ball rolling for a sustainable healthy eating, year and year again.

2021 was a substantial year for many chefs and culinary enthusiasts. Not only were new recipes invented, but the combination of some modern cooking techniques with old recipes help created a masterpiece of food.

2022 will experience a continual healthy eating lifestyle. Hence, here are a list of foods that are most likely to trend in 2022 for Nigerians:-


Vegan Seafood

Since The movement to stop Ocean destruction began, thanks to the sustainable global goals. There's been a rise in vegan seafood farming though this is relatively new in the African continent. Hopefully, Nigerian food enterprise will pick up the farming trend on a large scale. Because Fish, shrimps, and tunas are part of the Nigerian cooking component. So, why not.



Super grains

Super grains are grains that have more nutritional value than other grains. Grains like wheat, acha, Soya beans, granola, quinoa, and chia. These healthy grains have been gaining ground on the food shelf as numerous brands sort them to produce healthy products while others make them readily available. This trend is sure to go on in 2022.


More of Turmeric and ginger

Turmeric has been in the background in Nigeria for a while but is stepping into the limelight lately. And with the current health concern, ginger and turmeric are excellent spices that will continue making their way into teas, cereals, and condiments. They are readily available, easy, and convenient to use.


Ethical Flavors

The tongue at all times has a sense of adventure and craves foods with exciting flavors. The need to position African delicacy on the world map has brought about a high demand for ethnic flavors. Thus, culinary enthusiasts will be in the quest for Indigenous flavors and umami. This euphoria will bring about new flavourful Nigerian dishes.



Plant-Based Foods

Since the advent of covid-19, home gardening has experienced a significant increase; The high demand for fresh and organic foods as an alternative to meat. Consumption of meat is gradually reducing from the diet. As a result, spice, seeds, vegetables, and fruits are in high demand to serve as a great replacement.
