A HEALTHY PORRIDGE KUNUN TAMBA

Have you tried kunu Tamba? If you ask me this question months back, my answer will be No.

I first had of kunu Tamba when I was serving in Kaduna state. I was a member of the young farmers club. At the time, the discussion is on good healthy grains, and a club member from Lere Local government area of Kaduna state, mention Tamba. Many of Us was hearing of this grain for this first time.

After almost a decade, I finally lay my hand on Tamba flour for the first time. And thanks to made in nigeria products, I bought Tamba flour in the shopping mall nicely packaged with cooking instruction. When a product carries the made in Nigeria icon, you can trust the quality. It's a benchmark for quality.

Kunun Tamba does not look appealing. But it is sure packed with nutritional benefits. kunu Tamba satisfy and relaxes me, which is why I enjoy it during Ramadan fast. I will discuss ways to enjoy kunun Tamba in my next post.


WHAT IS TAMBA

Tamba is a traditional Hausa name for Finger millet, also known as Eleusine corocana.it is a whole grain that is gluten-free and a good source of natural calcium.


WHO CAN TAKE TAMBA

Anyone can take Tamba. Adults, children, and aging people. It's a nutritional cereal for all ages.


HOW AND WHAT CAN I MAKE WITH TAMBA?

Grind Tamba into a smooth black dotted gray powder. For food, you can enjoy as porridge, puddings (kunus), and cake(mix with wheat). It can be part of a daily diet. Tamba is healthy and easy to cook.


CAN I MAKE TAMBA FLOUR AT HOME, IF YES, WHAT IS THE METHOD?

Yes, you can. To make the flour, fetch 4 cups Tamba remove all spec of dirt and grind into powder.


FOR GARIN KUNU (PORRIDGE)

if you're using it for porridge ( kunu), you should add and grind it with some spices. Two cups Tamba, one tablespoon ginger you can buy ginger here, ½ teaspoon cloves, and grind into powder.


INGREDIENTS:

1 cup Garin Tamba

6 ½ cups water

One tablespoon Lemon juice (optional)


PROCEDURE:

1. In a pot, add five cups of water and place over heat to boil.


2. In a bowl, pour one cup of garin kunu, 1 ½ cup water, and mix appropriately to form a thin batter.


3. In a small drinking cup, fetch ten tablespoons of a thin batter, set aside, and wait for the water to reach a boil.


4. When the water reaches a boil, remix the consistency, then pick the pot of boiling water and pour it at once into a bowl of thin batter.


5. Use Ludayi or cooking spoon to mix appropriately. Add remaining thin batter (in a small cup) as you mix until it's finished.


6.Add lemon juice (optional)


7.Serve hot, sweetened with sugar, and enjoy with Akara pancakes.
